Real Power

July 18th, 2018

It is common to hear people say what a strong person they are because they are able to stay in and tolerate the abuse of a toxic person. It does take incredible resilience to be with them, but is this really a strength? Strengths shouldn’t have anything to do with tolerating abuse. It is much harder to leave these relationships and face being alone than it is to stay in them and remain abused. If we are going to be strong, we need to be strong in healthy ways. Our strength shouldn’t be a measure of how much abuse we can take and still survive. This is not love and this is not healthy. Real power comes in the courage you have to love yourself enough to leave these relationships, take the time alone you need to heal, and then create a whole new life made up of better, healthier and more loving choices. Power comes in not allowing people to take advantage of you. We must be wise enough to know that true love doesn’t involve abuse.
