Monday Mindset: The Next Victim Won’t Get Treated Any Better

February 26th, 2018

One of the fears we have when we leave the toxic relationship in our life is that the person we left will move on and treat someone else in all the ways we wished they had treated us. We can get so stuck on this that we obsess over it. Let me relieve this fear. Whoever this person was with you, they will be that exact same person once they hook someone else. Toxic people don’t change, and we must not confuse the love-bombing or good behavior we may see them doing to another person as evidence of their “change.” Nor should we see this as evidence that we were somehow too flawed for them to treat us the way we deserved. Love-bombing is not love, it’s manipulation. Free yourself from the worry that someone else is going to get the “good” out of the person we cut ties with. If there was no good with us, they aren’t going to be any better with anyone else. The problem was not you; it was the toxic person.
