Recovering

April 12th, 2018

After we leave toxic ties, it takes time to heal. The first thing we must do in our recovery is protect ourselves. We must take the steps to block the toxic people we’ve left from getting back into our lives. We must practice not responding or searching information on them. As long as we have interest in what they’re doing or saying, we aren’t protecting or taking proper care of ourselves. The next thing we need in order to recover is to begin undoing the damage they have wreaked on our self-worth. The more we study these types of people, the more deeply we come to understand that they are and were always the problem. This knowledge helps us stop abusing and doubting ourselves. It allows us to put the responsibility for our hurt in the right place. As we work to untether ourselves, we can put the necessary effort into rebuilding our lives into something much more fulfilling and beautiful. It takes work to do this, but it’s completely possible. Once we start putting a new life in place, we must be discerning about who we allow into our life. Keeping our lives clean and peaceful comes down to making good choices in people.
