Unequal Rules

May 25th, 2018

When you’re in a committed relationship, you’re not strung along on any ultimatums. You are not told that if you don’t do this or that differently that there may be a chance of them planning their future without you. There is no safety in this type of dynamic. We should not have to audition to be good enough for anyone for any reason. If there are troubles in a dynamic people need to be able help their partner as much as they demand they change things about themselves. Relationships solutions cannot come from one person only. There are places where each have to participate for things to move forward. The most important thing we offer anyone is our understanding, our empathy and patience. The most important thing anyone can do for their partner is what they need to do to feel comfortable and happy. Those things may not be exactly what our partner wants, as they may want or need more but we each have our level of time and readiness to consider. No one knows us better than we know ourselves, so it is important we communicate what time or timing is best for us so that we can navigate challenges in ways where we feel supported, accepted and safe.
