Trust Needs To Develop

June 22nd, 2018

One way we set ourselves up to manipulated is to fully open ourselves up to people from the very beginning. Toxic people love it when we do this because it gives them an opportunity to feign empathy, love and understanding, and they may even tell us they will never hurt us the way we have been hurt before. However, as time goes on, not only do they begin manipulating and hurting us, but they use all the pain we entrusted them with for warfare in support of their abuse of us. They use the pain we’ve shared with them as evidence that we are somehow always at fault. There is nothing more painful than having our vulnerabilities manipulated against us. For trust to be real and healthy, it is best if we open up to people slowly. There is a strong person who has lived through and survived your pain. That person is you, so lead with those strengths. keep your eyes open, and as time goes on we can test sharing our vulnerabilities little by little to see how what we’ve shared is held and honored by the other person. Soon we will know if this is a person we can trust or not.
