Monday Mindset: Get Out To Stay Out

June 28th, 2018

As hard as recovering from toxic relationship abuse is, it is possible. It takes more time to recover from toxic relationship abuse because it is a long and arduous process of undoing all the brainwashing we underwent while in the relationship. These relationships rip us of our confidence, confuse as to what our rights are and aren’t, and destroy our ability to think rationally. The biggest challenge in recovery is to take the first step of getting out, going silent and staying silent. When we first get out we are the most prone to relapse because we crave for the toxic people we’ve left to realize what they’ve lost in losing us, own their mistakes and make the changes necessary to have a healthy relationship with us. With toxic people, they can say all the right things to suck us back in, but they can only maintain the facade of change for a very short time. We can stay so stuck in this never ending cycle of “trying to work things out” that we never heal. We most hold the mindset to get out and to stay out no matter how deeply we hurt. If we stay silent, the hurt will go away. If we go back again and again, the pain becomes cumulative and leaving even more challenging.
