They Know What They’re Doing

July 11th, 2018

Toxic people do not think or operate in any of the same ways that healthy people do. To toxic people, other human beings are only inanimate chess pieces in their emotional games. They take great pride in destroying perfectly healthy, smart, loving, successful, kind, people. When they witness their manipulations starting to confuse, upset or anger us they know they’re in the process of winning. They are not in the business of loving, they are only interested in winning the battle of bringing us down. It is hard to imagine that these people who we want to love are people who are not at all interested in love. We have to keep in mind that toxic people don’t abuse every day. They have to give us moments of counterfeit love and kindness to keep us hooked and hopeful. As long as we are hooked out of guilt, obligation or fear, and as long as they are able to give us a moment of hope for their change, they have won. They know exactly what they’re doing. Giving them the benefit of the doubt only sets us up for more and more abuse.
